She famously caused concern following a disastrous interview on This Morning back in 2008 when she appeared barely with it.
But on Wednesday Kerry Katona proved that’s she well and truly back on track as she returned to the day time TV show.
The former singer opened up about her past demons revealing she never thought she would make it to 30, as well as describing the moment her children watched the disturbing interview.
Dressed in a flattering red skirt and top combo Kerry spoke to Philip Schofield and Emma Willis about how she turned her life around.
She said: ‘It’s a real sad story… but I’m really proud, the likes of some people who have sadly passed away like Amy Winehouse and Whitney Houston… I was on prescription medication and I was also taking a-class drugs so I’m really really lucky to be alive.
‘And I found the strength to get through my demons… and working with you guys again – that gave me a massive confidence, but I did kind of feel like you were my dad [to Phillip] and I had to wait for his approval!’
She added: ‘For me, it was a personal triumph, because I never thought I would make it to 30… I could’ve had my kids took off me, I should be dead, I was at an all time low which we witnessed here on live television.’
Speaking of that This Morning appearance, Kerry said: ‘That day I was on a hell of a lot of heavy medication, which I took the night before which I explained to you previously and I was in a really unhappy marriage, I was in denial of my drug habit and I was really lost and lonely, I had no friends round me, no family… and when I watch that clip, I refer to her as a third person.
‘It’s really really sad but in the same respects I’m really proud that I got through it.’
She admitted that she only told her children of her demons following her ‘return interview’ on This Morning in 2010.
Kerry explained:’Holly said to me then, what about the kids, have they seen the show? And I sat here and said ‘no, they haven’t seen the show yet’ and I actually went home and thought ‘Holly’s got a point there’… I didn’t even think about it, and I sat Molly and Lilly down and at first I said there are things in there about your mum that I don’t want you to know.
‘But I let them watch it, and I’d rather they hear it all from me than anybody else, and they watched the whole show.’
Kerry added: ‘I sat there so ashamed and embarrassed and the tears were coming down my face… it was dreadful. But after the show finished, Molly turned round and looked at me and said, ‘I’m really confused mum, when did all this happen?’… so despite the fact that we all knew that my life was getting out of control, they didn’t.
‘I’d never done drugs in front of my kids, and they saw me drunk for the first time last year in France when I got a little bit merry! But they’d never witnessed anything. I was very good at faking at being OK especially when my kids were around. I was in denial myself.
‘And the reason I’ve been so open and honest in this book is if I can talk about this now, hopefully other people can talk about it. But from a personal level I want to draw a line and move on…’
The TV personality looked happy and healthy in her smart yet sexy outfit.
Despite the chilly weather outside, Kerry kept her legs bare and even wore a pair of summery peep toe heels.
Her blonde hair which she often wears in a quiff, was styled into a sleek side-partying.
As well as discussing her difficult past, she talked about the happier times she can now look forward to in particular an Atomic Kitten reunion.
On her involvement with her band mates,Liz McClarnon and Natasha Hamilton, Kerry said, “I’m not allowed to say too much but for me, its a full circle…its been eleven years and people forget this is why I’m here today, my personal life kind of took over for my mishaps but this is where it all started for me.’
She added: ‘I’ve been with the girls for the last two days now and it feels like a duck to water… it’s a big reunion with lots of different other bands, I really don’t know too much about it but its going to be aired in January!’
‘But I’m really happy, the kids are great, and Christmas is round the corner which is my favourite time of year and I’m in top form.’
